The Collaboration

In 2019 VP Bank decided to build a central integration layer, as part of the further development of its digital architecture.

The starting point was the implementation of an integration layer for a new client advisor cockpit. The goal was to create a flexible, scalable, and future-proof integration architecture that efficiently connects the Avaloq core banking system with various surrounding systems.

Following its successful introduction, the integration layer evolved into a strategic core component of the IT architecture. For several years, it has been continuously expanded and used for an increasing number of connected systems, including:

  • VP’s proprietary e-banking platform
  • Legal applications
  • Additional internal and external surrounding systems

The integration layer supports both read and write processes, enabling bidirectional, secure, and high-performance communication between Avaloq and connected systems.

A concrete example is the integration of foreign exchange trading for e-banking clients. Before a transaction is completed, the effective exchange rates—including all costs and fees—can be retrieved and subsequently booked. The data exchange for processing is handled via the ti&m Banking Adapter and Asubium A.dapt.

Our Contribution

Asubium plays a central role in the operation, further development, and architectural support of the integration layer.

Our services include:

  • Development and continuous enhancement of Asubium A.dapt as the central integration layer
  • Integration of the ti&m Banking Adapter using Kafka as the messaging technology
  • Ensuring stable read and write integrations with Avaloq
  • Technical design and architectural consulting
  • Support for connecting new surrounding systems
  • Operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of the integration platform
  • Assistance in implementing new business requirements (e.g., Forex spot and forward trading in e-banking)

Through close collaboration with VP Bank’s business and IT teams, a sustainable and scalable integration architecture is ensured.

The Added Value

With the established integration layer, VP Bank now has a central, high-performance, and future-proof integration platform.

Value for the bank:

  • Clear decoupling of the core banking system and surrounding systems
  • Scalable architecture for new digital services
  • Faster connection of new applications
  • Standardized integration processes
  • High stability and performance through Kafka-based architecture
  • Expandability for new business models and trading functions

Today, the integration layer is a strategic component of VP Bank’s digital banking architecture and forms the backbone for the continuous development of its digital services.
